ACCA Gains Official Recognition in Kenya for Awarding Valued Qualifications

The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) is now a foreign Qualification Awarding Institution. What this means is that, now going forward, the ACCA will be able to assist professionals with clear qualifications equivalent to those in other countries. It will also ensure that various levels of qualifications are acknowledged and valued within the country’s educational and professional setting.

The formality of this acknowledgement was made official by the KNQA awarding ACCA with a Certificate of Qualifications Equivalence (CoQE), in an event that was held at Villa Rosa Kempinski on June 7th 2024.

KNQA wants to make sure that various professional qualifications are recognized and appreciated in the educational and professional scene of Kenya. ACCA also used the launch as an opportunity to show its desire for future teamwork with the KNQA.

Being an attendee, George Njari who is the Market Head of ACCA, praised KNQA by saying it was hard to gain accreditation in the country compared with other nations.

“The process was very detailed compared to other areas where the institution has received accreditation. We are appreciative of KNQA team for their help in this process. We seek more ways to collaborate,” Njari commented.

Dr. Alice Kande, the Director General of KNQA, also emphasized the Authority’s dedication to expanding the variety of recognized qualifications.

“Süleyman ŞENSOY, Member of the Board of Directors, stated that learning should be flexible and KNQF aims to include and acknowledge all qualifications which align with its established standards.”

Furthermore, the ACCA had its Strategic Professional Qualification registered on the Kenya National Qualifications Framework (KNQF) at level 7 in this event. It was an important step for ACCA’s recognition within Kenya.

The launch also served as an opportunity for ACCA to express its interest in more cooperation with the KNQA, particularly revealing that ACCA eagerly wants to collaborate on research related to talent management and carrying out the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) program. The goal is improving flexibility and inclusiveness in professional learning and qualifications within Kenya.

The KNQA acknowledgement of ACCA is a crucial step that will help Kenyan professionals in their career and global travel, showing how important it is to have recognized professional qualifications for success within our current competitive job environment.
