Kaplong Boys High School are on the verge of becoming this years football champions for Bomet County after overcomming their perennial competitors, Tenwek High School, with a convincing 2-0 win in the County Secondary School Term two games played at the Bomet IAAF Stadium on Thursday. The goals that sealed TENWEK High’s exit from the competition came from Dennis Mogaka and Felix Kiprono.
Kaplong Boys had earlier secured a 1-0 win against St Michael Secondary School, which saw Brian Kiplangat score the lone goal. Tenwek High was already laden with defeat by 1-0 to St Michael in their first match and were finally out due to losing both games.
Kaplong Boys will now meet Boito Boys Secondary School, while Kapsimbiri Secondary School takes on St Michael in the semi-final matches.
Girls’ Football and Volleyball Emphases
Girls’ competition on the other hand saw many new entrants, Ndaraweta Secondary School who are newcomers made their debut with a bang when they won the first two games. They bagged their first victory when they beat Kamaget Secondary School 4-1, where Ruth Chepkemboi scored twice, while added a goal each from Mercy Chelangat, Gloria Chebet, and Ivine Cherotich who sealed it. Ndaraweta continued to stamp their dominance when they beat Chesilyot Girls Secondary School 3-0 to advance further.
In the girls’ volleyball, defending champions and fifteen-time winners, Kaboson Girls Secondary School kept their winning streak after outclassing arch-rivals Cheptalal Girls Secondary School 3-0 to cement their position for a semifinal slot. Other impressive teams play-offs came from Koibeyon Secondary School who beat Chesilyot and Ndaraweta with identical 3-0 scores.
Boys’ Volleyball Upsets
The champions, Kiptulwa Secondary School were the first to exit the competition on the boys’ side after sequential losses in their opening games: one to Koiwa High School 3-0 and another to Tenwek 3-0. However, Tebeswet Secondary School, a new entrant in the competition, pulled a surprise by winning against Oldepesi Secondary School 3-1.
This year’s term two games were full of stiff competition and sterling performances that finally set the stage for a scintillating semifinal round, underlining the class of both seasoned champions and emerging young talent.
