Busia KSSSA Clears Kamuriai to Represent County in Soccer Amid Controversy

In a massive win for high school sports in Busia County, Achia Echakara Kamuriai Secondary School has finally been allowed to be Teso North Sub-county’s representative in the upcoming county soccer competitions by the Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association. This has come after months of confusion and controversy over the sub-county finals.

The final pitted Kamuriai Secondary School against Katakwa Secondary, which it won 2-0 to seal a berth in the county games last Sunday. However, a day later, drama unfolded when the local KSSSA ruled that Kamuriai had to replay the final with Kolanya Secondary School. This was after an appeal from Kolanya following the decision that Katakwa, who had beaten it 1-0 in the semis, had committed anomalies.

The decision to have a rematch aroused a lot of discontent among students and former students from Kamuriai. In a show of solidarity in demonstrating, they matched 10 kilometers to the District County Commissioner’s office in Amagoro protesting that the decision was odd and the first of its kind in the history of association football.

It was, therefore, after a lot of deliberations that Busia KSSSSA upheld the initial victory of Kamuriai so that the team continued to represent Teso North Sub-county in the county games. This resolution restored order and allowed the students to focus on the competition ahead.

Now, Kamuriai will begin training to participate in the county soccer competitions. The winners from the counties move to the regional games that will be hosted by Bungoma County. The regional winners again proceed to the national championships in Kisii.
