Celebrations as Kisumu Day Retains Kisumu County Secondary School Football Title

This morning, Kisumu Day High School emerged champions of the 2024 Kisumu County Secondary School football championship in a rescheduled final played at Maseno School with 2-0 over Agai Secondary.

Bavon Omondi turned man of the match, banging in two early goals to set a tone for Kisumu Day’s dominant performance. Although the match was fanless, it turned out to show class and the resolve to retain the title.

The final match came immediately after a week of controversy. Earlier in the week, Kisumu County KSSSA Secretary George Osura had announced that decisions on the two appeals made by the competing schools would be revealed soon.

The event changed with Katolo Secondary from Nyando Sub-county out of the championship on Wednesday. Katolo had earlier defeated Kisumu Day 1-2 as Kisumu Boys lost 0-1 to Agai in their respective semi-final matches at Maseno School.

The later part of the semis and the build-up towards the finals was quite competitive with ensuing appeals. The final contest was between Katolo and Agai Secondary, which was abandoned in the 90th minute as the scores were still at 1-1. The latter two decisions of the appeals later ensured that upon the replay of the final, Kisumu Day proved their might by taking the cup home.
