Dagoretti Mixed Football Team Eyes Nationals After Semi-Final Qualification

Dagoretti Mixed is eying the nationals following its triumph in KSSSA Nairobi County Games by booking a slot in the semis. Team performance has been great of late, and they really proved their worth with a convincing 2-0 win over a determined Beth Mugo in yesterday’s quarterfinals.

Coach Joseph Orao expressed his optimism of readiness for the semi-finals and went ahead to add that with this hurdle jumped, no opponent poses any serious threat in the remaining stages. Team tactics emphasized by the coach included long balls, and these were able to easily break down Beth Mugo. Poor pitch and bad weather just proved some of the challenges, while the team still steered its way up to this win.

“The game was not good because the pitch is of poor quality and the weather was not good. However, am happy we pushed through,” Orao said. “We plan to play our game our way during the semis with no pressure. I don’t foresee a tough opponent.”

In other matches, one-time favorites Huruma Girls went 2-1 losing to St George’s. Meanwhile, Soweto emerged tops with a 3-1 penalty win after a 2-2 draw over Embakasi, with St Patrick’s going down 0-1 to Kibera.

Other key results in the boys’ football quarterfinals saw Highway 4-0 over Our Lady Fatima, Dagoretti 3-0 over Shammah, St Patrick’s 2-0 over Beth Mugo, while Olympic scored 2-0 over Waylight. The semis pairings will then pitch Dagoretti against Olympic, just as St Patrick’s plays Highway.

There were some fine performances in the girls’ netball round of 16. This includes Utawala White Pool, who crushed Mbagathi 55-23, Starehe Main got past Dandora 9-6, Parklands Arya defeated State House 34-9, and Raila Education Centre easily outplaying Buruburu 47-18.
