Elgeyo Marakwet Governor Flags Off 14 Students to U.S. Colleges Under Pepea Programme

Elgeyo Marakwet Governor Wisley Rotich has flagged off 14 students to various colleges and universities in the US under the Pepea programme. Those feted are among the 34 selected during the county finale held at Tambach early this year in February.

Another 20 students have already secured placements and are awaiting visas. Governor Rotich expressed optimism and urged parents to keep hopes alive by supporting the children. A new round of selections, he declared, will happen in August at the ward level, thus encouraging interested students to begin preparation.

“Champs will have another selection in August. It will take place in all sub-counties while winners will face off here in Iten. Parents should encourage, give hope to children,” said Rotich.

He urged the successful candidates to focus on their studies and help others in the community. “We have 24 other candidates working on their visas with support from the county. I urge the successful candidates to focus on their education and help others here at home,” he added.

Coach Wilson Chepkwony gave assurance that selection would be on merit, considering the rising number of participants. The students were super excited, and so were the parents, terming the selection to be prayers answered.
