Ezekiel Machogu, the Education Cabinet Secretary, has said that schools where learning materials were ruined will receive fresh textbooks and exercise books before the school starts on Monday.
The CS made this statement when he visited Karen C Girls Secondary School in Langata, Nairobi County on Thursday, May 9, 2024. He was there to head a team that evaluated the damage done to school infrastructure before schools reopen on Monday.
Machogu added, “When we receive the report about which schools are hit by floods, then we can give and supply the needed textbooks or exercise books that might be destroyed in flooding.
He encouraged the parents not to be afraid of bringing their children back to schools during this reopening phase, stating that the government has evaluated and confirmed it as “controllable.
“The CS mentioned, ‘What we are getting from the experts is that we won’t have as much rain as we have had before. If anything, the situation is only improving all over the country.'”
This happens only in a few days after President William Ruto promised on Monday to provide KSh1 billion for repairing schools that are severely affected by floods all over the country. The government aims at making sure every school resumes its activities on Monday, 13th January 2024, as ordered by the leader of our nation.
