Gichugu Constituency Benefits from New Technical Vocational College

Over 30,000 residents of Gichugu constituency have received a new Technical Vocational College that will offer certificates and diplomas in different technical course subjects. Located in hot Gariama ward, Kabari sublocation, Gichugu constituency, Kirinyaga East subcounty, Gichugu Technical and Vocational Training will have a carrying capacity of some 3,000 learners according to Principal Joseph Kimemei.

Principal Kimemei assured prospective students that they would receive top-quality training, as the government has provided all necessary equipment and professional instructors from diverse fields. He emphasized the institution’s goal to become a center of excellence in mechanical engineering and urged parents across the county to enroll their children. The college is also open to individuals with existing skills who lack certification. Since its opening for registration, it has received an encouraging response from the public and has attracted over 500 learners already.

The firm collaboration between the local Member of Parliament’s office and the college have seen it completed and ready for commissioning,” said the Gichugu Constituency NG-CDF chairperson, Mr Geoffrey Kariuki Nduru. He joined the institution’s management in urging parents and guardians to offer their children the opportunity to study at this college, which has the capacity to produce students who are not dependent on employment. The prospective learners will also enjoy the Gichugu bursary that is facilitated through the Member of Parliament’s office.

Nduru said, “…the college will attract investors from all over the country, thus spurring the area’s development.” and added, “The spin-offs of such an institution in terms of cultural diversity and national integration which comes into being.” 

Resident Johnson Mbogo Giriama told of the personal benefit he gained from the institution by securing a job as a mason in the said college. This job has enabled him to make a living to be able to sustain himself in his day to day endeavours. He urged the government to establish more projects in rural areas which benefit the local communities. Mbogo emphasized that there has been an increased demand for technical courses and called on interested parents and youth to come forward and enroll in the centers. He said that the line of technical training should be emphasized to the girl child since most employers nowadays observe that women have the potential to solve their problems in technical areas.

Mbogo emphasizes on technical skills that will reduce cases of some idleness and drug abuse as well as crime activities. It marks a beginning of different life to members of the public and portends to foster education, employment, and development in the constituency.
