The Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) Nairobi County programme is set debut girls category of the rugby 7s competition which is touted to make term two secondary school games in the county even more interesting. The introduction of Girls Sevens will make this year’s competitions even more exciting. The competition starts tomorrow at St Mary’s School and promises to inject new vigor into the county’s sporting calendar.

Girls Sevens Rugby:
- Pool A: Ushirika Secondary, Kibera Secondary, State House Girls, New Dawn School, Garden Estate.
- Pool B: Karen C, Babadogo Secondary, Dagoretti Mixed, Silver Spring Secondary School, Kibera Girls Soccer Academy.
Boys Rugby:
- Pool A: Upper Hill School, Aquinas, Eastleigh, Dandora Secondary.
- Pool B: Lenana, Kangemi, Sunshine, Dumvale.
- Pool C: Nairobi School, Muhuri Muchiri, Embakasi Garrison, Dagoretti Mixed.
- Pool D: Dagoretti, Light Academy, Ushirika, Baba Dogo.
- Pool F: Moi Forces Academy, Mutuini, Highway Secondary, St Aloysius.
- Pool G: St Mary’s School, Makongeni, Hospital Hill, Raila Educational Centre.
- Pool H: Strathmore, Utawala, Kibera, Kibukosya School.
- Pool I: Ofafa Jericho, Jamhuri, Langata, Uhuru Secondary.
Boys Competition Overview
The competition will be organized into six pools of four teams each, with a total of 36 schools taking part in the event in the boy’s category. They will fight for two automatic slots to the nationals. Upper Hill School, defending champions, will set out to stamp their authority following the win at the Prescott Cup at the RFUEA ground a week ago, where they edged out RVA 15-10. They headline Pool A and will face off against Aquinas, Eastleigh, and Dandora Secondary.
Last year’s runners up, Lenana is pooled in B with Kangemi, Sunshine, and Dumvale. Nairobi School is a vastly improved team and will compete in C against Muhuri Muchiri, Embakasi Garrison, and Dagoretti Mixed.
Key Teams to Watch
- Upper Hill School: Holders and Prescott Cup winners, hope to dominate the games.
- Lenana: Runners-up last year and hoping to go a step better than the stiff competition in Pool B.
- St Mary’s School: They are hosts and will want to use that as an advantage to plot their way through the knockout phase.
- Ofafa Jericho: Former champions who found their way in Pool I, where they have a tough challenge up against Migos Jamhuri, Langata, and Uhuru Secondary.
Tournament Logistics
Immediately after these preliminary pool matches, all teams will be ranked—invariably the top 16 qualify for the regional finals slated on July 12-13 at a venue to be determined. Every team is supposed to pay Kshs 2,500 for the services of the referee and ambulance. Thereafter, every team is expected to come with two members from St John’s from its school to help in the process.
