Government Allocates Sh7.4 Billion for JSS Infrastructure Enhancement

Cabinet Secretary for Education Ezekiel Machogu has announced the allocation of Sh7.4 billion to improve educational infrastructure in junior secondar school. The allocation will be made available for constructing additional classrooms and laboratories, as well as buying equipment and learning materials related to science for the expected intake in all junior secondary schools countrywide.

Infrastructure Development

Addressing the 47th KESSHA National Conference at the Sheikh Zayed Hall in Mombasa, Machogu explained that the move was timely, considering increased enrollments. The move also relates to a strategy targeted at improving the quality of sciences at all learning levels in the country.

Specific Allocations

Machogu detailed the allocation as follows:

  • Sh3.5 billion for primary schools to build 1,000 additional classrooms countrywide.
  • Sh3.9 billion supplemented by the National Government–Constituency Development Fund for classroom construction at the constituency level.

These funds are part of a greater scheme to enhance learning facilities to accommodate ever-increasing students and generally enhance the learning environment.

Call for Collaboration

He called for close cooperation between the Cabinet Secretary and principals in schools for the success of these initiatives. He emphasized that principals have a critical role to play in the rollout of CBC in senior schools.

“The rollout of the CBC, especially in senior schools, requires all of us to work together with you principals as primary actors. The government is committed to offering you all possible support towards the guarantee of success,” said Machogu.

Support from Mombasa County Government

Mombasa Governor Abdulswammad Shariff Nassir who was also in attendance extended support as well as mentioned the huge support the County Government is giving to schools. He said the county was fully committed to ensuring each child gets access to education.
