The Government has released funds for the construction of more Junior Secondary School classrooms countrywide, with the project set to be completed by December.
While speaking in Nandi County, Basic Education Principal Secretary Dr. Belio Kipsang said that this is a strategy by the government to see smooth learning in JSS. According to Kipsang, Nandi County will benefit from 540 new JSS classrooms, where many are already underway in its construction.
“We are going to set up additional JSS classrooms across the country to accommodate Grade 9 learners. We’re going to get 540 new classrooms in this county. We are also elated that 24 percent of Form 4 leavers will join university, which is above the national average of 22 percent,” said Kipsang.
He indicated that 24 percent of Form Four candidates from Nandi County will join university in September, an enrollment rate higher than the national average of 22 percent.
Kipsang further said hiring and confirmation of JSS teachers is on course and asserted the government remains committed to ensuring smooth running of academic programs.
On the other hand, it targets the completion of 16,000 classrooms to accommodate Grade 9 students by the end of the year, showing the government’s commitment and seriousness in improving educational infrastructure all around the country.
