Government to Enhance Co-Curricular Activities in TVET Institutions, Says Director Charles Nyota

Charles Nyota, the Regional Director of TVET in Mount Kenya West, has given assurance that co-curricular activities within Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions will receive backing from the government. During his speech at Nyandarua National Polytechnic for regional KATTI Sports competition, Nyota underlined how crucial these activities are to identify student talents as well as ensuring their holistic growth.

Nyota has shared that the government created policies that would make sure all TVET students do co-curricular activities. Over 18 TVET institutions from Muranga, Nyandarua, Laikipia and Nyeri counties were involved in this event – showing how much importance the region places on student sports development.

“Other than technical skills, TVET students must engage in sports for their holistic development,” Nyota said. He said the government will equip TVET institutions with sports equipment to boost participation. He called on KATTI principals to put up modern sports facilities to ensure their fields can host different games.

“We want to encourage our KATTI principals to ensure they improve the standards of sports fields in their institutions so that they can be fit to be used during sporting activities,” Nyota said, encouraging trainers to offer moral and practical support to students.

This was said by Nyota as she was flanked by Mount Kenya West KATTI Chair Ruth Wanja, Mount Kenya West KATTI Chair of Sports and Recreation Robin Wachira, and other KATTI principals and guests present at the event. The emphasis on improving sports infrastructure and providing adequate support reflects a comprehensive approach to student development in TVET institutions.
