The free milk feeding programme promoted by Governor Jonathan Bii has increased ECD enrolment in Uasin Gishu by more than 10 percent. Governbor Bii, while visiting various ECD schools in the area, expressed pride and satisfaction with regard to the implementation of the programme, testified to by positive improvement in student enrolment and health.
Launched two years ago, the milk programme, baptized “Maziwa ya Koti,” has seen the number of learners in ECD units increase. Before the programme, about 40,000 learners were attending ECD schools. The number increased by 4,000 after introducing free milk supply every Tuesday and Thursday. This is a program beneficial to learners in 676 centers countywide. The more the reasons it benefits learners, the more necessary nutrition it provides, aiding to improve the health and cognitive development of the children.
Governor Bii termed this program successful following his visit to the Pioneer ECD unit, where he distributed milk to children. The initiative has since recieved several commendations for its role in attracting more children to schools and ensuring that they receive necessary nutritional support.
Besides the milk programme, Governor Bii has ensured some reforms in the education sector in Uasin Gishu. His administration has confirmed permanent terms for all ECD teachers within the county, and that was well received by members of the community. Last year, upon assumption of office, Governor Bii ensured 1,274 ECD teachers were confirmed to permanent and pensionable terms, offering job security and stability to educators.
Other members of the community, including Benjamin Leting, Abraham Cheruiyot, and Kipruto, have also lauded the governor’s efforts, citing successes in changing many sectors in the county. Leting insisted that support toward the candidature of the governor be reinstated, arguing that his work had transformed the community.
Equally benefitted residents with the improvement of health services through the renovation of Uasin Gishu County Referral Hospital and direct supply of drugs and medical supplies to county hospitals from Kemsa. These improvements engendered better health outcomes for residents in the county.
Under Governor Bii, great strides have been attained in upgrading the infrastructural outlook of the county. Over 1,400 kilometers of roads upgraded and new inner roads within Eldoret town tarmacked, greatly improving its connectivity and transport.
What has also been realized is an increase in county revenues to over Sh1.4 billion. Attention falls therefore to the effectiveness of whose administration policies and growth in terms of revenue under Governor Bii.
