HELB Announces Education Loans for Government Employees

The Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) has expanded its education loan product to include all government workers offering them an opportunity, to further their education. The Jielimishe Loan enables government employees in pensionable positions to access loans of up to Ksh600,000 at an annual interest rate of 10%.

Qualified civil servants consist of individuals from the National Police Service (NPS), Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) various ministries at both county and national government levels and employees of commissions like the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), Judicial Service Commission (JSC), Public Service Commission (PSC) among others.

The loan is also open to staff members working in the 290 parastatals in Kenya including organizations such as the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), National Social Security Fund (NSSF), National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) and Kenya Ports Authority (KPA). Lecturers and support staff in universities and academic institutions are eligible for this program well.

HELB has included provisions for employees of companies to apply for the Jielimishe Loan. Those interested can inquire about their companys eligibility by sending an email with their companys name to [email protected]. For college students seeking loans, HELB offers a convinient way to apply through the USSD code *642#.
