It was a tough start for Kenya’s reigning Secondary Schools Sports Association football champions, Highway Secondary School, during the ongoing 21st edition of the Federation of East Africa School Sports Associations games in Uganda. Highway Secondary were defeated 2-0 by hosts St Mary’s Kitende from Uganda in their opening match at the newly constructed Amus College Stadium in Bukedea.
St Mary’s Kitende stamped their authority on the game from the word go, netting two early goals through Dennis Kisiriko and Santos Agok. The Highway Secondary School never recovered, but will hope to bounce back when they face Benjamin Mkapa Secondary School from Tanzania tomorrow at 11:00 am.
The opening game saw Musingu High School drawing 2-2 with Amus College School of Uganda, and they are set to face off against Kalangalala Secondary of Tanzania tomorrow at 11:00 am.
The former KSSSA champions, St Joseph’s Boys Kitale, will start their campaign today at 3:00 pm against Benjamin Mkapa Secondary. St Joseph’s is placed in Pool A alongside St Mary’s Kitende of Uganda, Bukedea Comprehensive, Highway Secondary School, and Benjamin Mkapa Secondary.
St Julian of Uganda, Amus College of Uganda, APE – Rugunga of Rwanda, Musingu High School, and Kalangalala Secondary of Tanzania are the teams constituting Pool B.
In the girls’ category, Butere Girls secured a 2-0 win over Amus College School from Uganda and St. Noa Girls Zzana, also from Uganda, won 2-0 against Tanzanite Secondary School from Tanzania. Nyakach Girls played out a 0-0 draw with St. Joseph’s Kitale Girls, and Alliance from Tanzania ended with a similar scoreline against GS Rumera Rukoma of Rwanda.
Indeed, the FEASSA games are living up to their billing regarding stiff competition at the regional level, and most of the teams here have set an eye on regional supremacy.
