Indiana University, which is one of the finest colleges in the United State of America, has expressed its interest to work together with five Kenyan universities.
In a two-sided meeting that took place at the Ministry of Education, Jogoo House between delegates from both countries, it was unanimously decided that Kenyan universities will choose faculties in which they might need assistance from the Indiana University.
Dr. Beatrice Inyangala, Principal Secretary for the State Department of Higher Education and Research who chaired the meeting, noted that the collaboration will bring numerous doors of opportunity for Kenyan students to attain high-quality university education. She also stated that Indiana University was a world class institution that excells in many fields of studies.
She encouraged the vice chancellors from universities in the country to look for ways and room to cooperate with Indiana University. The PS also indicated that Moi University, Eldoret has been a partner with the American-based university for 20 years.
The four other universities which were present in the meeting apart from Moi University included Embu University, Technical University of Kenya, Dedan Kimathi and Open University of Kenya. These universities sent their vice chancellors as representatives.
Prof. Daniel Mugendi, the vice chancellor from Embu University, forwarded his preferred areas of collaboration as Agriculture, bio-technology and Nursing. Prof. Eng Peter Muchiri from Dedan Kimathi University of Technology chose Micro- Electronics as his university’s niche in the collaboration.
Technical University of Kenya and The Open University of Kenya picked Medical physics and Data science as their two other universities. On collaboration chances, Hilary E. Kahn from Indiana University said that there are ample opportunities within the university for the Kenyan’s universities.
She stated that they have particular courses which could be fields of interests for African universities. “We are the only university in the world to have a school of philanthropy,” she added.
