Kabarnet High School emerged champions of the Baringo County football in the Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association following a clear win over Moi Boys High School Kabartonjo by 3-0. This was a sterling performance that secured a place as county representatives in the upcoming Rift Valley Region KSSSA Term Two games to be held from 16 to 20 July 2024 in Bomet County.
Dubbed the “Titans, Kabarnet High had been dominant in the competition. Taking advantage of their home ground, they trounced Marigat Boys High 6-1, then effortlessly whipped Kolowa Boys 5-1 to set themselves up for their final onslaught on Moi Boys High School Kabartonjo.
In the girls’ category, Mogotio Girls High booked their ticket for the regional level with a 2-0 win over Kapropita Girls. The Mogotio Girls showed great brilliance and fighting spirits, most exceptionally in a penalty scare that their goalkeeper saved to perfection. Before that, the team had outshone Solian Girls 2-0 before demolishing Chemolingot 7-0 and overcome Kasisit Girls in the semifinals.
While Kabarnet High was celebrating winning the football, their basketball team lost in the finals to Emining High. This pulsating encounter that drew more than 5,000 fans ended with Emining High emerging victorious. In volleyball, Poror High thrashed Kabarnet 3 sets to nil to seal their slot to represent Baringo in the regional games.
The chief principal of Kabarnet Boys High, Julius Ndirangu, and the chief principal of Kabartonjo Boys High, Samuel Akufa, congratulated their pupils for the talent among them. Akufa congratulated his team’s for making it to the finals. He said the team did its best, confident that next year they will outshine their competitors. Both principals therefore called upon the government to adopt the concept of fully financing sports activities in schools, as this was the only way of ensuring fine talents among the youths are supported.
