Kenya Secondary Schools Term Two National Games Kick Off in Kisii

The Kenya Secondary Schools Term Two national games started in Kisii yesterday with a number of exciting matches in different categories.

Boys’ Football

Musingu Secondary boys, fancied for the title by posting a hard-fought 1-0 win over Machakos Boys in a match played at Cardinal Otunga High School. Marvin Ashihundu notched the winning goal for Musingu, nicknamed the Scorpions.

“It has been a closely contested game that could have gone either way. I am happy we won, though. Machakos are a good team with very fine players. Our target is to top the group,” said Musingu coach Brendan Mwinamo.

In another match played at Gusii Stadium, Nyanza’s Koderobara struggled to a 2-2 draw against Kirangari from the Central region. Felix Casillas put Koderobara in the lead in the 61st minute, but Randon Ondiko levelled for Kirangari. Edward Amboka put Kirangari ahead five minutes later and Laban Odote pulled Koderobara level in the 90th minute.

Girls’ Football

Defending champions Butere Girls squeezed a narrow win against Kibauni 1-0, while Kombani and St Joseph’s Kitale shared a point following a 1-1 draw.

Volleyball

The defending Girls’ volleyball champions Kesogon launched their title defense by defeating Soweto Academy 3-0 (25-13, 25-17, 25-21). Coach John Marani said, “Kwanthanze and Lugulu Girls are our main opponents. We want to retain the title even though I know it will be difficult.

In the other matches, Nyakongo Girls from Nyanza thrashed Senior Chief Adano 3-0; 25-07, 25-12, 25-05. Hospital Hill, former champions in the boy’s category saw off County High School 3-0; 25-8, 25-14, 25-08. The coach of the Hospital Hill team, Andrew Bahati, set his eyes on reaching the finals and qualifying for the East Africa championships in Uganda.

In another boys’ volleyball match, Nyabondo, coached by Evans Oliech, beat Kiaguthu 3-0 (25-20, 25-19, 26-24).”We expect a very tough competition because all the teams are good. We shall give our best and I hope that this trophy will remain in the Nyanza region,” said Oliech.

Netball

A game between Mbagathi Girls and Hon DM Amin ended 88-5 in favor of the former, and the one between Andersen High School and Kinale ended 72-16 in favor of the former. Kaya Tiwi needed a narrow 37-33 win over Symule as Nyanza’s Oyugi Ogango trounced Bumula 46-36.
