The Kenya National Examinations Council has revised the schedule for the Junior Secondary pilot study for Grade 9 exams. This pilot involves teachers who will act as invigilators and examiners. In the new announcement by the TSC, the excercise is mean’t to ensure better preparation for the summative assessments in KJSEA and KPLEA.
Revised Schedule for Pilot Study
In a memo dated 28th June 2024, from the Office of the Chief Executive Officer, Teachers Service Commission (TSC), to Sub County Directors and exclusively seen by Education News Kenya, new dates for the administration of Pilot tools for Grade 9 KJSEA and KPLEA Summative Assessments have been moved to 15-19 July 2024, as opposed to the earlier dates of 1-5 July 2024.
Rescheduling and Scoring
Due to the rescheduling, the TSC said scoring for pilot tools for KJSEA shall be taken from 2-13 August 2024. This memorandum had emphasis on the need to note the revised dates for appropriate action by the concerned parties.
Preparing for Grade 10
The current Grade 9 students are being prepared to sit for their examinations in the year 2025. After sitting for the examinations, they will proceed to Grade 10 in Senior Schools as pioneers in the Competency-Based Curriculum in the year 2026, at which time they will select one of the three specialized pathways:
- Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM): Focusing on critical and analytical skills in scientific and technological fields.
- Social Sciences (Humanities): Encompassing disciplines such as history, geography, and social studies.
- Performing Arts, Music, and Athletics: Catering to students with talents in creative and physical domains.
