The Kenya National union of Teachers (KNUT) has requested the Ministry of Education (MoE) to release capitation funds to the schools in good time. Through the teacher’s body vice chairman Aggrey Namisi, KNUT called upon the government to do the necessary so as to ensure smooth running of schools.
In a statement published in the Education Newspaper, Aggrey Namisi, KNUT’s National Second Vice Chairman, urged Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu to act swiftly to prevent disruptions in school operations.
“To avert paralysis in school activities,” Namisi stated, “the MoE should release capitation funds directly to schools.”
The union official further highlighted the challenges faced by schools nationwide in recent months due to delayed capitation disbursement.
“Schools across the country have been struggling to implement essential activities due to the late arrival of capitation funds,” Namisi explained.
On top of that, Namisi also pleaded with school principals to refrain from sending students home due to lack of school fees. He acknowledged that most parents were facing hard economic times and suggested that it was time for the government to step in and make sure that schools run smoothly.
