Koyonzo High School and Kakamega School Highlight 2024 KSSSA Kakamega County Games

Reigning champions, Koyonzo High School, and former giants Kakamega School are set to grace the 2024 KSSSA Kakamega County School games running from 19th 22nd 2024 at St. Peters Mumias High School, where a total of 25 teams have been entered in various categories for a chance to lay claim to this prestigious title.

Defending Champions: Koyonzo High School

Koyonzo High School are currently the county defending champions and were pooled in Pool A. They won the crown last year after they edged out St. Peters Mumias 21-10. This year, they have shown their supremacy again by topping the Matungu sub-county. Other schools in Pool A include St. Joseph Mumias, Lubinu Boys, Kilimani Secondary, and Shanjero Secondary.

Despite the recent setbacks in the preseason tournaments, in which they lost the Scrummage Katch 7s to Mukumu in the semis and the Western Black Rock’s tournament finals, head coach Oscar Okaron remains confident—”The boys are aware of the task ahead and we are not under any pressure as we visit the counties. I am very confident we are going to defend our title and go all the way to the nationals,” he said.

Hosts: St. Peter’s Mumias Boys High School

St. Peter’s Mumias Boys High School has a home edge as they will be playing in Pool B while hosting this year’s games. The former champions will battle it out in the pool against Mwira Secondary, Ingotse Boys, Mabole, and Ikonyero Secondary. They are battle-conscious and seek to regain their glory and be the winners in their backyard.

Five-time National Champions: Kakamega School

Pool C will house five-time national champions Kakamega School. The ‘Barbarians’ have been placed in one of the groups of death, including Mwihila Boys, St. Augustine Mlimani, and St. Augustine Soysambu. The Westerners, not amused, will be out to salvage the regional title.

Pool D: Mukumu Boys High School

Scrummage Katch 7 finalists, Mukumu Boys High School, topped Pool D of the competition and will face Kivaywa Boys, Mwitoti, and St. Mukasa Secondary, who are all eager to match the big favourites and proceed further in the tournament.
