The KSSSA national football games are set to go down in Kisumu County. Five other regions have picked their teams, all eyeing the same championship.
Kiringari Boys: Central Region’s Contenders
Kiringari Boys Secondary School in Central Region will be making a comeback for nationals after their campaign did wonders in 2023, having taken the championship by defeating Kiaga Secondary School 4-0 in the final at Kagumo High in Nyeri County. This year, they’ve defended their title and are the only team to come back from last year’s nationals.
Musingu School: Western Region’s Hopefuls
Musingu School from Western Kenya under Coach Brendan Mwinamo, who boasts extensive experience will be representing the region. A graduate of Kakamega School, Mwinamo led his former school to successive titles in the years 2017 and 2018. Musingu won the Western Schools Regional Boys Football Championship after a tight 2-1 win over Munyuki Secondary, taking the title home for the first time in 19 years. The semi-final match against Kibabii Secondary was not short of controversy, as the fans stormed the pitch in protest after a red card was given to one of the Musingu defenders.
New Champion for Nairobi Region
The Nairobi Region is going to have a new champion this year. Olympic Mixed Secondary School defeated the current champions, Dagoretti High, 1-0 in a very exciting semi-final played at Jamhuri High School and booked a slot in the nationals.
Kodero Bara: Nyanza’s Representatives
Kodero Bara qualified after winning the Nyanza regional qualifiers that Kodero Bara secured a place in the nationals. The team will represent the Nyanza Region and hopes to leave an impression in Kisumu.
St Joseph’s Kitale: Rift Valley’s Champions
Representing the Rift Valley Region is St Joseph’s Kitale. This team emerged top in their area and represented well their region in the regional competitions, which earned them a spot for the nationals.
Dr Aggrey: Coast Region’s Entry
Dr Aggrey will be representing the Coast Region after some sterling displays that were held in their regional competitions. Their choice results from consistent performances that proved their skill and determination.
Awaiting North Eastern Representative
Selection for the North Eastern Region representative is still pending as selection continues. The selected team joins other regional champions in Kisumu.
