The Kenya Secondary School Sports Association has announced that the term two national games, originally slated for 29 July to 7 August, will now take place from 4 August to 9 August. This was declared by KSSSA Secretary General David Ngugi.
According to Ngugi, there will be a referees’ clinic at Kisii School on August 1, with the arrival of teams the following day. On August 3, there will be a tree-planting exercise including students, coaches, teachers, and other officials.
Events that are set to take place include football, netball, rugby 7s, volleyball, and racquet sports. Kisii School is going to host football, netball, basketball 3×3, rugby 7s, table tennis, and badminton. The rest, including volleyball and football, are going to take place at Cardinal Otunga High School in Mosocho. The opening football match and other high-risk matches, including the finals, are going to be hosted at Gusii Stadium.
On July 24, a high-level delegation from KSSSA and the Ministry of Education visited the facilities and approved their condition.
The opening ceremony will be held on August 4 at Gusii Stadium, and the first match will be played on the same day. Preliminary games will take place on August 5 and 6, semi-finals on August 7; while the final and closing ceremonies will happen on August 8. Teams are expected to depart Kisii on August 9.
Ngugi also revealed that teams will proceed to Kakamega for a 10-day camp before entering Mbale, Uganda, for the FEASSA Championships. The teams will depart Kisii straight to Kakamega where they will be joined by teams that qualified for the regional event during Term One games,” said Ngugi.
Ngugi, while accompanied by KSSSA President Kipchumba Maiyo and Treasurer Kariuki Gikonyo, revealed that the regional competition will take place from August 16 to August 28 at Amus College School and Bukedea Comprehensive School. He assured the public that Kenyan teams are going to perform well at the regional competition and travel back home with trophies.
