KUSNET Calls for Fresh Negotiations Over Career Stagnation of Special Needs Education Teachers

KUSNET Secretary General James Torome while speaking in Vihiga fell short of appreciating TSC for the recent deployment of 6,000 teachers. He called for a fresh negotiations that will see some members promoted as well, saying they had stagnated since 2018. The Kenya Union of Special Needs Education Teachers decried the stagnation of some members in certain job groups.

KUSNET Secretary-General James Torome noted that proposals for career progression have not been implemented to date since 2018; he was seeking an urgent meeting between the members and the employing body to iron out contentious issues affecting them.

Speaking in Vihiga County, Torome said what they had agreed before was gathering dust, notwithstanding lauding the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), for engaging some 6,000 teachers whom he said have so far been posted to various schools. Revealed also was that some of those handling regular schools were promoted to very high grades.

He also welcomed the fact that members using walking aids have been considered, adding that those using one stick would have an allowance of 20,000/- per month, an amount teachers using walking frames would also be earning.

“Those who engage both hands while walking and those using frames will also be in the same category,” he said. He said the allowances will be backdated to the month of March this year, advising strict observance of the requisite requirements for them to be considered for guidance allowances.
