Meru Governor Disburses Ksh 6 Million in Scholarships to Needy Students

Governor Kawira Mwangaza of Meru County has distributed Ksh 6 million in scholarships to 300 poor students, ensuring that they complete their education without financial struggles. Benefiting children came from Imenti North, Imenti Central, and Imenti South Sub-Counties.

Secondary school students received Ksh 10,000 each, while college and university students got Ksh 30,000 each. The funds are in addition to recently disbursed bursaries and will support the students until they complete their education.

The awards were done at a function at Kinoru Stadium during the presiding over the launch of the Meru County Scholarship Fund. The scholarship fund is meant to enhance access to education by all learners, irrespective of the economic backgrounds from which they come. This was revealed by Governor Mwangaza. Present in the event were the parents of the beneficiaries, as well as a number of government officials.

The governor challenged the scholarship beneficiaries to perform better in their examinations, revealing that out of the 4,650 applicants, 974 were selected under a very transparent and rigorous process.

This initiative is part of my administration’s effort to make education accessible to all learners in Meru County, regardless of their economic background, for we recognize education as society’s greatest leveler,” said Mwangaza.
