Disciplinary action is to be taken against employees of Migori County, who are linked to a fake certificates scandal after their resignation letters were rejected by their employer. According to the KNEC audit, 95 out of the 2,700 workers falsified their primary and secondary school certificates in securing jobs.
Over 25 of the individuals involved tried to tender resignation letters in hope of leaving their jobs quietly. Migori County Secretary Oscar Olima, however, rubbished reports that any individual involved in the scam would be allowed to resign.
“None of them can resign; they all must face disciplinary committee as the law requires, and we have declined any resignation letters,” said Olima. Those found with forged papers had since been struck off the payroll pending disciplinary action to decide their fate.
“None of them is on the county payroll. Should we find any reason, we can return them after the disciplinary action is carried out in full,” Olima mentioned.
The county is only obligated to dismiss the implicated staff, then the prosecuting agencies such as DCI can proceed to prosecute those found involved in the forgery. He added that if a probe gives a valid reason, then the county may consider reinstating an individual after following due process.
This follows an audit conducted by the Migori Governor Ochilo Ayacko-led administration in concert with the Institute of Human Resources Management, that equally saw 607 ghost workers removed from the county payroll.
