The Ministry of Education’s State Department of Early Learning and Basic Education has released the schedule for approving school applications for the 2023/2024 Maintenance and Improvement Fund (M&IF).
Approval Meetings by Sub-County
According to the new schedule, county directors of education are expected to engage with their Sub-County counterparts to organize meetings with schools for project approval. A memo from the Migori County Director of Education (dated May 15, 2024) outlines the schedule for these meetings in Migori County:
- May 27th: Kuria West (16 schools), Mabera (19 schools), Kuria East (10 schools), and Ntimaru Sub-county (15 schools)
- May 28th: Rongo Sub-county (32 schools) and Uriri Sub-county (34 schools)
- May 29th: Nyatike North (19 schools), South (22 schools), and West Sub-counties (17 schools)
- May 30th: Suna West (24 schools) and Migori Sub-counties (32 schools)
- May 31st: Awendo Sub-county (38 schools)
Meeting Requirements
The memo instructs Sub-County Directors to ensure all schools follow Ministry of Education guidelines. This includes:
- Scheduling of Board of Management (BoM) and School Improvement Committee (SIC) meetings before the approval schedule with the aim of discussing proposed projects.
- Ensuring proper documentation is prepared, including all relevant supporting documents for projects implemented in the 2020/2021, 2021/2022, and 2022/2023 financial years.
Meeting Committee Members
Members in the committee meetings will include; County Commissioner, County Director of Education, County Quality Assurance Officer and host Sub County Director of Education with hosting Kenya Secondary Schools Heads Association.
