Needy students in Rangwe Constituency, Homa Bay County, have received bursary funds worth Ksh50 million issued by their Member of Parliament (MP), Lilian Gogo. The funds have been disbursed thanks to the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF).
Speaking yesterday, May 13th, at Asumbi Girls High School during the disbursement of funds, MP Gogo explained how this allocation will help approximately 14,600 students in secondary schools, colleges, and universities. The bursaries aim to ensure these students can remain in school and not miss out on their right to education.
“Education is now a basic human need in our society,” MP Gogo stated. “For children to better understand and fit into society, they should be educated.”
She also appealed to the National Government, requesting them to consider over increasing the sum assigned as NG-CDF because this will enable many students to receive support. It is a fact that the number of students in schools continues growing with time.
“NG-CDF should receive more allocation because it brings benefits to the people. There is an increase in demand for the funds,” Gogo said.
MP Gogo shared that applications for bursaries in her constituency amounted to over Ksh72 million. Due to this high demand and limited funds, they had to reduce the individual bursary amounts.
“I had to decrease the money we give college and university students from KSh10, 000 down to KSh7000 so that most of the applicants receive some money for their education,” she said.
