Mumias East Member of Parliament Peter Salasya, now wants mechanisms put in place to ensure a 100% transition rate of learners to various academic levels in the fight against poverty in the region. Salasya further directed his input on the bursary funds’ disbursement model that caters to all students with an assured commitment that all applicants were going to be granted financial aid and all the students will be recipients of equal chances in accessing basic education.
Salasya said his most ambitious agenda was to ensure all children of school-going age in Mumias East are in school. He noted that his office has a programme for students who are not able to join university after high school, adding that they will be taken to technical institutes where his office will cater for the admission fees, while the national government will provide tuition fees for them.
Good improvements were made in the facilities with a promise of a new bus within Wanga Technical Training Institute. Salasya urged students to join the institute saying that they will be guaranteed some job opportunity with a certificate from the institute, or even self-employment.
Salasya has also invested in East Wanga Medical Training College, where he is facilitating the construction of new storey tuition block. This shall allow the college to take in many students and start various courses, including knowledge-based studies to help the locals around.
The MP made this pronouncement during the Annual General Meeting at St. Stephen Maraba Secondary School, where he also promised to organize a flight ride for the students if they fare well during this year’s exams.
