It is Musingu Boys High School, the current Western Region football boys champions, who will make their way to Kisumu looking to bring home the KSSSA national title, last won by them in 1984.
It sealed its slot for the nationals after defeating Munyuki 2-1 in the final at Sudi Stadium, home to the Kenya Premier League team Nzoia Sugar. At the semis, Musingu eliminated Kibabii 2-0 in a replayed semi-final that was played at Friends School Kamusinga following fan trouble.
Munyuki dramaticaly won 5-4 on penalties against Bukembe following a goalless semis, setting them up for the final. The jury cleared Munyuki to participate in the final after Bukembe had appealed, claiming that Munyuki fielded an ineligible player.
Notable Western Region teams like Green Commandos, Friends School Kamusinga, and Ebwali have all won national titles before. Local reps, however—John Osogo from Busia County and Mabunge—were eliminated at the preliminary level.
The defending national champions Butere Girls, too, will head to Kisumu after winning 4-2 on penalties against Archbishop Njenga, following a 2-2 draw in extra time in the girl’s category.
In volleyball, Friends High School Namwela retained the KSSSA boys’ volleyball championship after they thrashed Butula School 3-0 at Bungoma High School. On the way to the final, Namwela also defeated the 2022 champions Malava Boys.
Lugulu High School makes a comeback to the nationals after losing in 2019 and 2022, with the girls staging a demolition of St. Martha Mwitoti 3-0 in the final.
