Nakuru: 22-Year-Old College Student Dies After Being Thrown Out of Moving Car

What was to be a night out for a group of college students in Nakuru ended tragically when one of them, a 22-year-old Eileen Cherotich, died reportedly after being thrown out of a moving car. Students expressed outrage at the incident and are loudly complaining about violence and safety.

Eileen Cherotich, a student at Rift Valley Institute of Science and Technology doing business studies, went out to have some fun in Nakuru with friends. The night tragically ended when the boyfriend elbowed her out of a moving vehicle following a brawl between the two. The incident happened at around 8:42 pm on Sunday, July 14, 2024, as the group was going home.

Information concerning the fight that led to Cherotich’s death is still scanty, according to Citizen Digital. The police are holding three suspects and a vehicle suspected in the killing at the Nakuru West Police Station. The police are piecing together what transpired to kill her, alongside investigating the circumstances.

The body of the late Cherotich was moved to the Nakuru County Referral Hospital Mortuary, where a post-mortem examination is scheduled to go on as police investigations take their course. A disgruntled multitude of college students reacted to the sad news by pouring into the streets in protest, seeking justice. They blocked the Nakuru-Eldoret Highway, protesting for quick action and accountability by the authorities.

The sad event shocked the student fraternity at the Rift Valley Institute of Science and Technology. Many students have been out in the streets to express their anger over the killing and are demanding justice for the fallen comrade. The blockage of the Nakuru-Eldoret Highway by the students shows a high level of frustration and a demand for quick transparent investigations.

Social media has been filled with messages of condolence and calls for justice. Netizens, in great number, condemned the incident, stating how shocked and sad they were at what had happened, and called for justice to prevail over the culprits.

This incident has drawn parallels relating to other tragic events of youths and road safety. For instance, another young lady, Sherryta Smith, narrated an emotional tale of her daughter Sasha who survived after falling out of a moving vehicle and being run over by two cars. This shows issues of vehicle safety and strict measures necessary to safeguard passengers.
