The National Assembly Education Committee has reiterated that the 46,000 JSS intern teachers will be confirmed as earlier resolved. According to the chair of the committee, Julius Melly, funds for the exercise had already been factored in and there was therefore no cause for alarm.
Chairperson Julius Melly said this in an address from his Tinderet constituency and reiterated that the process of confirming the 46,000 JSS serving as intern teachers was on course. He reiterated further that the funds were ready, so one need not worry at all. He also added that 20,000 interns will be employed soon after which they’ll be converted to Permanent and Pensionable terms.
Melly revealed that the government was on course to address the shortage of trainers, with the view of improving TVET in the country. Funds have been exclusively set aside for hiring trainers to achieve the goal.
Yesterday, the TSC was on course to dispatch appointment letters to 26,000 interns. This move is part of the wider aspect of trying to grapple with the workforce requirements in education.
He called for patience from Kenyans, adding that the government of Kenya Kwanza was fully committed to hiring 116,000 teachers by the year 2027 to improve the quality of learning in the country.
Recently, the TSC advertised for 20,000 internship positions. This follows President William Ruto’s withdrawal of the Finance Bill following countrywide protests.
