National Assembly Education Committee Chairman Urges Patience as CBA Implementation Nears

According to the chairman of the National Assembly Committee on Education, Julius Melly, his committee is already engaging the National Treasury and TSC on full implementation of the second phase of the 2021–2025 Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Addressing members during the recent meeting of the KNUT Tinderet branch, Melly sought to reassure teachers that the Government was still committed to the deal. He said that although the process may take time, efforts had been put forward to fulfill the promise. “I want to assure you that there is light at the end of the tunnel. The government appended its signature on the document and there is no way it can refuse to honor it,” Melly stated.

Furthermore, Melly called upon teachers to embrace a saving culture that would guarantee them a hassle-free retirement. He advised them to invest wisely and collectively during the years of service for future gain.

These remarks come amid growing tensions, with teachers threatening to strike on August 26 if the CBA is not fully implemented. KNUT and KUPPET have equally warned that teachers will not resume duties if the government does not act.
