Favourites Musingu High School and St Joseph’s Kitale will meet in the boy’s football semis as action in the ongoing National Secondary School Term Two Games continues in Kisii.

On Tuesday, final group matches were staged, where Musingu edged Koderobara 1-0; Kevin Manani scored the decisive goal for the Scorpions. A brief spell of chaos disrupted the game but resumed later. St Joseph’s Kitale secured a commanding 6-0 win over Dr. Aggrey, placing the latter second in its pool. Musingu coach Brendan Mwinamo is ready for a tough encounter with St Joseph’s Kitale.

“St Joseph’s is a good team, but we are equally good. I have been at the nationals before and I’m prepared for the game. We have set our sights on the finals,” said Mwinamo.

The other semi-final features Highway Secondary School and Central’s Kirangari, also to be held at Kisii School. Highway finished top of their pool after a narrow 1-0 win over Takaba Boys from Mandera. Kirangari and Machakos shared a similar score in ending in a 1-1 draw.

The reigning champions Butere Girls face Kombani in the first semi-final in the girls’ football, while Nyanza champions Nyakach face Butere Girls in the other semi-final.

Our focus is majorly to win the game against Kirangari,” said Fred Abuga, the team manager of Highway’s. “We want to prepare the boys for the game because it will not be easy.”

Volleyball Matches

The former champions Cheptil will play Nyanza’s Nyabondo Boys in the boy’s volleyball as Namwela locks horns with other former champions, Hospital Hill at Kisii School. Cheptil cruised to the top of their group following their dominant 3-0 win over Milalulu, while Namwela emerged second after their victory over Matiliku. Hospital Hill worked extra hard to edge Kiaguthi 3-1 to top their pool as Nyabondo easily beat County High in straight sets.

The defending champions, Kesogon, will square it out with the former champions Lugulu Girls in the girl’s volleyball category. East Africa champions Kwanthanze will face Soweto Academy in the other semi-final.

Basketball Matches

3×3 defending champions Onjiko Boys qualified for the semifinals after outclassing Sigalame 21-7. St. Joseph’s Kitale defeated Machakos Boys 21-10 while Sawagongo caused a major upset when they defeated Dagoretti High 21-15. Laiser hill was shocked by Friends School Kamusinga, who won 15-8.

In the girls’ category, Raila Education Centre edged out Kaya Tiwi 11-7 in the first quarterfinal, with Nasokol Girls mauling Mbitini 21-9. Butere emerged triumphant from their tussle with Nyakach Girls 17-13, with St Joseph’s Kitale edging out Ngiya Girls in a 13-11 thriller.
