Bomet central sub-county secondary schools sporting event was a thrilling show of athletic might and team spirit as Ndaraweta Girls and Tenwek Boys High Schools dominated the Bomet Central Sub-county Term Two school games, competing at the Chepngaina and Aisaik Secondary grounds with excellently executed performances that accruingly won them many title wins for each institution in different sports.
Ndaraweta Girls Shine
Football Triumph
Ndaraweta girls emerged the overall winners in the football event after a hard-fought competition with Chepngaina. It was a historical game with ups and downs, where the team won 2-1. The two crucial goals came from one Jalody Chelangat and the team captain Shirlyne Cheptoo, in that order. A single goal for Chepngaina was scored by Sharon Chepkirui.
Volleyball Victory
Girl’s volleyball was also hogged by the Ndaraweta Girls, who stunned favourites Chebonei to complete a clean sweep of 3-0 (25-21, 25-17, 25-20). Its journey into this final was marked with a win of 3-1 over Sibayian through the semifinals.
Principal’s Praise
The team’s achievement was great, but the kind of resilience and discipline that has been portrayed by the girls is more important than the victory itself,” Ndaraweta Girls School Principal Norah Yegon said. “Our players are disciplined, and in the entire competitions, we have been insisting on discipline matters, which has brought us success.” Mrs. Yegon called for a blend between academic and co-curricular activities, for she believes both are crucial for the growth of students.
Tenwek Boys’ Dominance
Football Champions
After trouncing the Kabungut Boys Secondary School 2-0 in a nail-biting final, Tenwek Boys High School proved their great football abilities. The victory came after Veron Wanjala and Gideon Kipkulei notched the ball home. Coach Gideon Kemboi said he appreciated the opponents as a strong team but insisted that they needed to prepare their team for the county games.
Volleyball and Basketball Victories
Tenwek Boys went ahead to take the volleyball title on the boys’ side by defeating Singorwet Secondary School 3-0 in the final. The latter reached the final following a 3-1 victory over Mugango in the semis. In basketball, Tenwek Boys also carried the day home, taking another trophy home.
Rugby Title
Speaking of trophies, the rugby title was yet just another feather in Tenwek Boys’ cap and SUV risky dominance in a number of disciplines. What has however, stamped a mark of authority building up was the ability to turn in good performances across all disciplines, proving a well-rounded sports program in this school.
Netball Highlights
Chebonei emerged the victor in the netball competition, competing in the final with Ndaraweta Day with a runaway success of 21-10. At semis level, Chebonei had floored Kiplokyi Girls 18-15, while Ndaraweta Day edged out their neighbors Ndaraweta 12-10 to book a slot in the final.
