Major (Retd) Marsden Madoka, a trustee at NFDK, led a team that commissioned new classrooms in west pokot, that were build with the intention to benefit disabled children. He shared at the institution that the move was made to facilitate easier access to education for learners with disabilities.
Madoka urged parents in the region not to keep their children with disabilities hidden at home. He asserted that NFDK was dedicated to helping these children receive an education, a right every child deserves across the country.
“We ask parents not to hide the disabilities of their children but instead bring them forward so they can get help. We are committed to helping wherever there is a need. The money we invest in income-generating projects is for providing ongoing support to the disabled community,” he said.
He promised to provide wheelchairs, crutches, and other necessary items for the students in school.
“We encourage people to seek help, and we provide support to disabled individuals every year. All the new classrooms and offices under construction will be beneficial for the entire sub-county,” he stated.
According to Hilda Ruto who is the current head teacher at the institution, the new classrooms will be a source of major changes in the institution and are estimated to benefit around 70 learners. The school has had to deal with the issue of inadequate infrastructure and the reluctance of some parents to enroll their disabled children.
