Nyandarua National Polytechnic put up an outstanding show at the recent Mount Kenya West KATTI Sports competitions and gymnastics extravaganza, finishing third overall and winning the soccer title in a very competitive tournament. The stakes were high as the polytechnic hosted the event, with all expectations focused on the team winning big in various sporting activities. It managed to step up for the occassion and won the football title.
Of the 17 participating regional colleges, Nyandarua National Polytechnic performed relatively well in all the categories that were featured. For example, the ladies’ soccer team were crowned champions, hence the first team to represent the region at the national level. They had displayed magnificent games in the preliminary fixtures and consequently in the final, which was pulsating against the Mathenge team – a perennial strong team in the competition.
Nyandarua ladies carried the day ahead of their fierce opponents, a win that left KATTI officials and the multitude of spectators in boundless applause. The win was, in fact expected and an assurance of qualification to the nationals.
In other sporting disciplines, teams from Nyandarua National Polytechnic performed impressively during the regional contests. The ladies’ netball team and the men’s soccer team managed to excel in their respective groups lifting the team to a third position, which could only be described as an all-round spirited battler for honours. The men’s basketball team also did well to deserve accolades.
At the end of the competition, students from Nyandarua National Polytechnic expressed their gratitude for giving them a platform to express and explore their talents. Support from the institution mean’t alot to the students by creating room for them students to excel in academics as well as co-curricular activities.
