President Ruto Faces Dispute Over Nyamira University Location

President William Ruto found himself in the middle of a tussle between members of Parliament in Nyamira County over the proposed location for the future Nyamira University. The tussle ensued between North Mugirango MP Joash Nyamoko and his colleagues from the West Mugirango, Kitutu Masaba, and Borabu constituencies.

The fight erupted when Nyamoko confronted the President during his visit, demanding to know whether the President was committed to selecting a particular site for the university. According to Nyamoko, in the Kilgoris meeting, there had been a resolve to set up the university in Kiabonyoru.

However, Kitutu Masaba MP Clive Gisairo tore into Nyamoko, accusing him of belittling other leaders to project himself as the only MP with a conscience on the interests of the people.

Following the row, President Ruto broke his silence on the tussle over the varsity’s host, saying he would leave it to the local leaders to decide before asking them to iron out their differences.

The County Visit marked the beginning of the President’s three-day tour to Gusii Region, where he is set to preside over the launch of various development projects valued at over Ksh7 billion. In his visit, he presided over the construction of classrooms and announced the establishment of a university at Kiabonyoru Mixed High School. In addition, Ruto mentioned the construction of 44 laboratories and dormitories in 68 schools within this region, which the Kuwait Government funded at Ksh1.4 billion.
