The event marked another milestone for Technical and Vocational Education in Kenya since President William Ruto inaugurated the Kipsoen Technical and Vocational College in Elgeyo Marakwet on July 13, 2024. The move is geared toward upholding the government’s commitment to growing technical education and equipping the youth with practical skills so as to adapt to modern job market requirements.
During the launch, the President emphasized the power of progressive learning as a transformation tool. He argued that the decision to establish the technical and vocational college in Keiyo South reflects an impeccable story of social transformation through education. The institution is also intended to enhance technical skills among the youth, cultivate a sense of innovation, and entrepreneurship.
One of the outstanding features in the new college is the issue of a digital hub. President Ruto said that more than 100 youths have already been empowered, mentored, and got the opportunity to secure this income source and earn money from digital jobs. This resonates quite well with the broader agenda by the government to tap into technology as an avenue to create jobs and grow the economy.
During the launch ceremony, several high-ranking government officials were present, including the Deputy President, Rigathi Gachagua, and the Prime Cabinet Secretary, Musalia Mudavadi. Their presence underpinned the great importance attached to the project and the unified effort in promoting technical and vocational education in Kenya.
In attendance were Governors Wisely Rotich, Elgeyo Marakwet; Chelilim Bii, Uasin Gishu; Principal Secretaries; Members of Parliament; and Members of County Assemblies. Their presence epitomized the teamwork that ensured the institution’s success. Indeed, this was important collaboration in synchronizing educational programmers, at both local and national levels, toward the attainment of development goals.
