President William Ruto has promised to construct a new university at Kiabonyoru in Nyamira County, saying the government would set aside Sh500 million for the institution. Following consultations with the local MP, the President gave a commitment that pointed to strategic focus on building educational facilities in the region.
“We have decided to build a university here at Kiabonyoru because you have enough land,” the President said, adding that he would “personally see to it that the foundation of the project is laid before the end of the year.” He called upon the local people to support their leaders in ensuring that this project is complete.
Other activities to be attended by President Ruto during his three-day working tour in Kisii and Nyamira counties include the laying of a foundation stone for a dormitory at Kiabonyoru Secondary School in North Mugirango. Among key projects lined up, he will also inaugurate an important interchange at Daraja Mbili in Kisii town intended to greatly improve regional infrastructure.
He noted the interchange as a critical component in the final stages of multi-billion Kisii-Ahero-Kisumu road and Kisii-Rongo-Migori highway, which already spur growth along 172km corridor connecting northern Tanzania to Uganda and South Sudan via Kisumu.
A cancer center is also projected to open its doors in Nyaribari Chache. According to MP Zaheer Jhanda, the centre will be ready soon and thus offer crucial healthcare to the people of Gusii and the larger Nyanza.
