Rift Valley Institute of Science and Technology (RVIST) has suspended classes due to student unrest.
A memo dated June 7, 2024, and signed by Principal SK Chemoiwa stated that all staff and students must vacate the college premises by 12:30 PM today (that was on 7th June 2024).
“After the disturbance that happened during Thursday night and Friday morning, it’s clear we can’t have regular classes because of the environment,” the memo states.
It is thus announced that the college programs will be suspended indefinitely. “All students must vacate the college premises by 12:30 PM,” as stated in the memo.
The principal informed the students that they must stay at home until the institution determines when it will be appropriate to restart their school activities.
The Nakuru-based college did not provide details about what triggered the students’ unrest.
The memo was copied to the deputy principals’ administration and academics, registrar, dean of students, finance officer, and heads of all departments and subjects. The chairman of the student union also received it.
