Sh8.3 Million TVET Scholarships Empower 40 Underprivileged Students in Kericho and Bomet Counties

The Finlays Community Trust, in a commendable move to improve education for less fortunate students, has offered scholarships amounting to Sh8.3 million. Forty beneficiaries from Kericho and Bomet counties will use the awards to join Technical Vocational Education Training Institutes (TVET), where they can study different technical courses.

The TVET scholarship program meeting had its official start event held at a Kericho hotel, where the students who benefited from it and their parents gathered to receive awards. These scholarships are for them to get admitted to Belgut and Konoin Technical and Vocational Education Training institutes so they can learn practical skills that will enhance their chances of being employed.

Commitment to Education and Youth Empowerment

Mrs. Zipporah Njoroge, the Regional Deputy Director of TVET Kenya, honored this event with her presence and praised Finlays Community Trust for its dedication to promoting education as well as empowering young people from the Kericho and Bomet areas. She said that starting the TVET Scholarship Program shows how much they value their work towards helping our education sector.

“The government,” as per Ms. Njoroge’s statement, “will keep involving and joining hands with stakeholders to make sure that every Kenyan student can equally enjoy quality education, research work along with innovation opportunities plus the chances for entrepreneurship and getting employed – all for their community’s benefit and Kenya’s future,” Ms. Njoroge again emphasized (Government Communication Strategy, 2021).

Expanding Educational Opportunities

Bishop Alfred Rotich, the Chairperson of Finlays Community Trust, was happy to acknowledge that the trust had provided a major educational assistance to the community. Up until now, the program has helped 586 secondary school students, 400 undergraduate students, and 23 graduate-level learners in Kericho and Bomet counties. The total sum invested by the Trust amounts to Sh276.2 million. By enrolling in TVET institutions, students will get a decent education giving them a shot in the future job market.

“Education is a key element for the future of society,” said Bishop Rotich. He requested those receiving education to grasp their new opportunities in learning with courage and resolve.

Rigorous Selection and Continued Support

Sammy Kirui, the Secretary of Finlays Community Trust, shared how they chose students who deserved scholarships and mainly focused on those who got either a D or D+ in KCSE. He guaranteed that these scholarships would pay for their education for the entire learning period. After completing the training, each recipient will get a financial capital to support them in starting their own ventures and using the technical skills they have learned.

Significant Investments in Education Infrastructure

The head of Brown’s Plantations LTD, Simeon Hutchinson, was also present at the ceremony. He pointed out how crucial this kind of effort was. Furthermore, the Finlays Community Trust has put Sh305.6 million into more than 76 educational infrastructure projects spread across Kericho and Bomet counties. These initiatives entail building classroom blocks, science labs, libraries, dorms, and dining halls.
