SHOFCO and Siaya County Partner to Enhance Community Livelihoods

Shining Hope for Communities (SHOFCO) is getting ready to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) agreement with Siaya County administration. This agreement will avail different projects aimed at improving livelihoods among local community members which includes support for education. SHOFCO, a movement from grassroots, has initiated change in city slums by providing community advocacy, education and leadership development especially for women and girls.

When the community center in Siaya town was launched, CEO Kennedy Odede from SHOFCO made a public declaration about intentions for an official partnership with the Siaya County government. This intended cooperation is expected to give important services like education, health assistance and counselling along with food sharing for less fortunate people, similar to what SHOFCO does in more than 35 other counties.

Shining Hope for Communities (SHOFCO) is set to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Siaya County administration, bringing a range of livelihood improvement programs to local community members, including education support. SHOFCO, a grassroots movement, has been transformative in urban slums, offering community advocacy, education, and leadership development, particularly for women and girls.

During the launch of a community center in Siaya town, SHOFCO CEO Kennedy Odede announced plans for a formal partnership with the Siaya County government. This collaboration aims to provide critical services such as education, health, counseling, and food distribution to the underprivileged, similar to SHOFCO’s initiatives in over 35 other counties.

Odede emphasized SHOFCO’s commitment to addressing Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in Siaya through a coordinated effort with local authorities. “With the MoU in place, we will strive to give dignity and hope to our vulnerable community members, helping them thrive economically and empowering children through education,” Odede affirmed.

Governor James Orengo assured SHOFCO of political support and assistance as they implement their transformative programs. “Siaya County will benefit from SHOFCO’s rich livelihood enhancement programs, and we will provide a conducive environment to improve our communities,” Orengo stated.

SHOFCO also offers training in technical courses, community development, and information technology, among other disciplines, furthering its mission to uplift urban slum communities.
