The atmosphere in Machakos is electric today as the finals of the Kenya Teachers Colleges Sports Association (KTTSA) National Ball Games Championships are slated for today. After two weeks of tough competition, finally the best has emerged, promising a day of thrilling finals in all the sports categories.
Football Finals
In another men’s football semi-final, Egoji Teachers Training College (TTC) from Eastern Kenya beat Kaimosi TTC from Western Kenya in a pulsating match at Machakos TTC. They had played to a 1-1 draw in regular time, but the game had to be decided through the penalties, which are always dreaded. Egoji would emerge 3-2 winners, hence booking a date with Mosoriot TTC from Rift Valley, who cruised past Shanzu TTC from the Coast Region 4-1 in another last-four clash. Kaimosi and Shanzu will battle it out for the third place in a consolation play-off.
Women’s Football
Eregi TTC women’s football team of Western Kenya overwhelmed Tambach TTC 4-0 in a one-sided semi-final match. The team will face Asumbi TTC in the finals, which promises to be a mouth-watering encounter.
Volleyball Finals
That in men’s volleyball, Mwingi TTC of Nairobi Region will face Rachuonyo TTC of Nyanza in the finals while Chester Diploma College will tackle Bondo TTC in the women final.
Hockey and Handball
The men’s category will see Murang’a TTC face Migori TTC, to whom they lost in the semis in a game that was tied 1-1 in normal time and decided on post-match penalties. In handball, it is Kibabii TTC vs. Kagumo TTC.
Basketball Highlights
One of the major matches that drew the crowd was the women’s basketball semi-final that featured Asumbi TTC against Kagumo TTC. The former exuded excellent tactical play by coach Tobias Kaloo, who was receiving the aid of Mwaka Evans, as they cruised to a 37-26 win. They went ahead to outshine Kaimosi TTC 46-36, thus bagging the final slot.
The men’s basketball contest also held the same closeness, with Murang’a TTC narrowly beating their opponents 35-34.

As the championship comes to a close tomorrow, the level of competition has been very high with teams exhibiting great talent and sportsmanship. The finals will be an exciting climax to the KTTSA Olympic Model Games which began on the 3rd of June.
