Students Applying for HELB Loans Urged to Provide Accurate Details

Students applying for HELB loans have been advised to give a true account about their family backgrounds so that relevant authorities can assess them correctly with regard to financial needs. Philanthropist Japheth Amollo told a reporter that he was discouraged that some of the students who come from very poor backgrounds find themselves in the higher fee-paying categories because of not disclosing their correct status.

While flagging off 23 students to Rachuonyo Technical Training Institute at Ndori Primary School grounds in South Gem Siaya County under his sponsorship, Amollo called on students to ensure openness in application for the higher education loan. He said students are limiting info leading to inadequate access to the financial needs of applicants.

Amollo also challenged the government to come up with a more transparent method of identifying students in need and urged well-to-do persons to support less-privileged youths, as education serves to reduce unemployment and improve security.

The beneficiaries are 23 students who will be taking technical courses, such as electrical engineering, building and construction, and plumbing. Among the beneficiaries was Winston Churchill, who remarked that he would work so hard, knowing so well it is a chance accorded by Amollo’s generosity.
