Trans-Nzoia Governor George Natembeya Calls for Abolition of Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC)

Trans-Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has opposed CBC, airing his sentiments regarding the Competency-Based Curriculum and rooting for its abolition. The governor indicated this on Saturday, July 20, in Kitale town, adding that parents, students, and other education stakeholders are confused and unhappy with the CBC.

Governor Natembeya criticized the CBC, terming it to have glaring flows, which the government was implementing with a lot of challenges. He underlined the anomalies in the grading system, fearing that this would undermine the competitive advantage of students at the international level.

One of the flaws that we have is that the current grading system under CBC will make it difficult for our children to compete internationally,” Natembeya said. Most politicians have taken their children to international schools, leaving Kenyans to suffer in their own country.

He further tore into the government over its handling of the education sector, insinuating there was a possible hidden agenda aimed at undermining education to benefit selfish and self-serving leaders.

“Considering what is happening in our education sector, to me, I believe there might be a hidden agenda aimed at undermining the sector to ensure Kenyans remain illiterate for the benefit of a few selfish leaders,” he said.

He warned that if the government does not address the issues, then he would take action by organizing parents to keep children out of school as a form of protest.
