The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has released new registration requirements for teachers under the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) in view of the proposed amendment 2024 Bill. Primary Teacher Education (DPTE)
- General Requirements: Applicants must have a C plain in the KCSE, a D in Mathematics, and a C- in English, along with their DPTE certificate.
- For Applicants with Disabilities: A minimum of C- (minus) in the KCSE is required.
Secondary Teacher Education (DSTE)
- General Requirements: Applicants must present their DSTE certificate, have a C plain in the KCSE, and at least two C+ grades in their teaching subjects. Additionally, they need a C in English, Mathematics, and Kiswahili/Kenya Sign Language.
- For Applicants with Disabilities: A minimum of C plain in the KCSE, two C grades in teaching subjects, a C- in English, and a C in Mathematics and Kiswahili/Kenya Sign Language are required.
Technical Teacher Education (DTTE)
- General Requirements: Applicants must have completed two related STEM technical teaching subjects with a C+ grade and a C plain in the KCSE. They should also hold a diploma in general technical courses taught at junior and senior high school levels.
Additional Requirements for Various Programs
Bachelor of Education or Bachelor of Arts with Education
- General Requirements: Applicants must have a C+ in the KCSE and two teaching subjects, along with a C in English and a D+ in Mathematics.
Bachelor of Science or Arts
- General Requirements: A C+ or higher in the KCSE is required for enrollment in these programs.
Postgraduate Diploma in Education
- General Requirements: Applicants must have a C+ in two teaching subjects along with their postgraduate diploma.
Adult and Continuing Education
- General Requirements: Applicants must present their diploma certificate, have a KCSE score of C plain or higher, and a C- for students with special needs.
