TSC Orders Teachers to Register with NSSF by July 31, 2024

In a recent directive, the TSC directed that all teachers not registered with the National Social Security Fund do so by Wednesday, July 31, 2024. TSC is holding billions of shillings deducted from the payslip of unregistered teachers, as they are only permitted to remit these funds into NSSF accounts.

To conform to this law, the Commission has started deducting a contribution from the salary of all teachers for remittance to the NSSF with effect from July 2023.

The National Social Security Fund (NSSF) is a statutory body established under the NSSF Act No. 45 of 2013. The Fund provides for workers’ social security benefits, survivor benefits, and invalidity benefits.

The Commission, in compliance with the NSSF Act No. 45 of 2013, effected payroll deductions for onward remittance to NSSF in July 2023. These deductions apply to all employees on the Commission’s payroll, irrespective of whether the employee is registered with NSSF or not.

To this end, it is the individual responsibility of all employees to ensure that they are registered with NSSF so that their monthly contributions can be credited to their individual NSSF accounts.

Accordingly, we advise that all unregistered teachers register with NSSF through the following avenues:

  2. Physically visiting the nearest Huduma Centre offices with their National Identity Cards; or

Kindly ensure that this Circular is disseminated to all teachers in your jurisdiction and make a follow-up on its compliance.
