University of Nairobi Climbs QS World University Rankings 2025

The University of Nairobi (UoN) has moved to be ranked among the top 1,000 in the global university ranking to position 909-950 among 1,500 other international institutions. This is by the latest QS World University Rankings 2025. This is a positive upward increase since the last ranking was around 1,000 to 1,200.

Advances in key areas to the UoN include employment outcomes, academic reputation, international research, and the faculty-student ratio. Employment outcomes were the most outstanding, rising to 92.5%, positioning the university in the 251-300 range. Academic reputation has also had a modest uptick to 10% from 9.6% in 2023. However, the employer reputation category plummeted to 11.7% from 14.6%.

Despite this decline, the university made gains in other areas. The ranking for citations per faculty improved, standing at 20.1%, placing UoN in the 1,051-1,100 range. Additionally, the international research networks indicator, which measures the diversity and richness of an institution’s research partnerships, scored an average of 50.1%. However, the university’s sustainability score was the lowest, at 1.8%.

The University of Nairobi was ranked 1,425 out of 2,000 by the Centre for World University Rankings last year. However, Kenyatta University – which got its first ranking in that same period – has stayed in bracket 1,201-1,200 with employment outcomes being its most powerful indicator.

The CWUR, which stands for Center of World University Rankings, is a very important consulting organization. It was created in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia and first started its work to measure the quality of education and training that students receive at universities as well as how respected the faculty members are plus their research quality. This ranking is not based on surveys or university data submissions but rather it uses eight strong indicators to evaluate world universities without any discrimination about country size or culture.
