University of Nairobi Confirms Kiama’s Compulsory Leave; Njoroge Continues as Acting VC

The Council of the University of Nairobi has reaffirmed its earlier decision to put Vice Chancellor Professor Stephen Kiama Gitahi on compulsory leave as stated by Council Chairperson Amukowa Anangwe on May 22nd 2024. According to the council, regardless of any recent happenings, the resolution that was taken back in April 19th 2024 stays unchanged and Professor Ayub Njoroge Gitau will keep acting as the Vice Chancellor.

Anangwe highlighted that fresh letters transfering duties of 24 administrative posts have been issued as per the Council’s resolution on April 19. The university community was informed about these changes. He reassured that the terms and conditions of service, as well as office staffing for those officers involved, will not change.

Anangwe also mentioned that every staff transfer and movement which happened because of the last court case and against Council’s resolutions would be reversed. He noted that the involved staff will have to assume their old positions without any hitches. The goal of this direction is to keep things normal as well as make sure that everyone follows the Council’s decisions.
